A couple weeks ago I traveled to Texas for my mom's birthday party and spent several days being with my amazing family, here are some of the pictures from my mini-vacation (as you can tell I drank too much caffeine)... my travel vlog below!
The moment that three-pointer by Kris Jenkins hit the basket... Villanova winning by a buzzer beater, I'm pretty sure the shriek I let out was deafening.
All the long nights working in a news room, win after win, carrying press conferences at 12am because I work for a 24-hour news station... all leading up to a devastating loss.
But it's devastating for more reasons than me just being upset as a fan.
This season was a heart-felt, hard-fought journey. Brice, Marcus, Joel, and Roy earned the right to win a another National Championship for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill... my alma mater.
I've been cheering for Carolina since I was in elementary school, deciding at the age of 12 that my greatest goal (up to that point) would be to graduate from UNC... and I finally did it last year.
This past season, I saw the ability for this team to bring home yet another 'ship title... their fantastic ability to communicate on and off the court, their loyalty to Williams. Win after win. Everything seemed to fall in place for Roy's boys.
I think that's why this loss hurts more than it probably should in the grand scheme of things.
This team deserved it... plus, it is always nice to brag that your team is the best.
But you know what? My team is the best. The way our UNC community came together to rally after the loss, the players' classy response following the game, Roy's obvious devastation for the upset of this particular team...
It's kinda like Tar Heel magic. An acknowledgement that you're all a part of something special.
Plus, c'mon - when you have Michael Jordan saying he's proud of this team and that they made him proud to be a Tar Heel, you know you've got something extraordinary.
That why I'm proud to be a part of it, and why it's always, always a good day to be a Tar Heel.
So, this loss is devastating - naturally. But I don't doubt we'll see another day when we can call our team National Champions... but until then, we as a whole are still winners and we'll keep winning because that's what Carolina does.
Signed, A Tar Heel.
As I'll explain in a later post... 2015 hasn't exactly been the best year for me, but I'm optimistic I can make 2016 better.
And I'm hoping to do that through these New Year's resolutions. Now, I'm not the kind of person who makes goals and thinks it will automatically be different. I understand these will take some work.
So here's the hopefully somewhat motivational... always cliche New Year's resolution list:
Number 1. Get healthy
I wrote a post back in September how I was making a "lifestyle change," (you can read that post here) so far I've done a pretty decent job of taking better care of my body, working out more, and eating healthier... so I'm hoping this next year I can basically "intensify" my goal and become the healthiest I've ever been.
I'm doing this through planning, upping my workouts per week, and eating healthier.
How? Well... my fitbit is able to track my exercise, calorie and water intake, even sleep patterns which will be super helpful in figuring out I'm doing wrong so I can fix the problems.
And my LP agenda will be helpful because I'll use the 'Months' portion of the agenda (which I previously never used) to track everything - and plan workouts.
Number 2. Blog more/Make more videos
I've always said I would blog more/upload more videos to Youtube, but it's always been on the back burner because of school or work... and while I don't think that's a bad thing (education comes first) I would love to focus on this blog and my channel more this coming year.
I graduated with a broadcast degree and I'm not utilizing the video skills I've acquired because at work I'm mostly producing and writing scripts (see my bio for more details).
Number 3. Be more financially fit
I know my parents will be pleased with this one.
I'm excellent at spending money. I guess you could say it's a talent of mine... which is why I need to become better at saving this next year. Especially because I realize there are certain things I want to do someday like travel overseas and buy a house - which I can't do unless I have money to do so... so I'm hoping this next year I get better at saving and a spending less.
Number 4. Be more organized
I feel like I'm a pretty organized person... but I can always be better. I would love to learn how to manage my time better in 2016 and just overall be more... organized (really not much to it).
What are your resolutions for 2016? Let me know in the comments - I love seeing what other people are hoping to accomplish (it gives me some motivation as well!)
Happy New Year!
