I’m starting a new lifestyle, and here’s why…
It hit me recently that I’ve been slacking off for a while now, and my health has suffered for it. I used to be incredibly diligent about carving out time to work-out and making sure I wasn’t over-eating and eating the right things. But things kind of took a turn basically the second I hit my twenties… I started gaining weight because I wasn’t eating as well as I should have and I wasn’t as committed to hitting the gym because of my busy schedule.
And this past summer it just got worse. I started a new job with weird hours (#newsbusiness) and so for months I would only occasionally work out, often choosing to sleep-in before getting ready to go to work. Plus, I started eating out a ton and making not-so-healthy choices.
When I was a teen I grew accustomed to just being really skinny because, well… I was. I found out I had a ton of food allergies and sensitivities (wheat, peanuts, corn, etc. etc.) and I was already a vegetarian so I immediately starting dropping weight like crazy, often times getting really sick and almost passing out until deciding I had to start eating meat again because I wasn’t getting all the iron and nutrients my body actually needed. So I reintroduced meat (I had been a vegetarian for more than seven years) and corn (which I had stopped eating for about two-years).
I’ve struggled with food for what seems like that longest time.
And honestly, on an average day I’m in a lot of pain. My “reaction” to certain food is inflammation which causes my ribs, chest, back and sides to hurt. Sometimes it’s definitely worse than others, like a sharp stabbing pain or sometimes a dull ache that lingers for hours at a time.
I had some additional allergy testing recently and found out I’m also allergic to soy and eggs. So I’ve slowly tried eliminating those foods in an attempt to see if removing them from my diet makes me feel better.
Let me tell you first-hand, the process is not an easy one and anyone who says it is must be lying.
So I guess all this to say, my health situation up until this point has been less than stellar and I’m making it my number one challenge to change it.
I’m working on exercising more, eating healthier, making substitutions, and cutting out all the foods that make me feel like hell.
And I’ve decided to blog about it… to hopefully motivate myself and potentially help someone else who may be going through something similar, or someone who just wants to start living a healthier life.
Who’s with me?
